Shell Midden—A Dinner Party, 2017

A participatory meal/performance focused on an archeologically significant shell midden on the Turner Farm beach on North Haven island, Maine. The site provides thousands of years of evidence of a vast and rich food system and revealing this strengthens the past, present, and future connection between food and community here.

Exploring on the site’s gastronomic, agricultural, and social history I produced an experience in which the local island community prepared, shared, and consumed a meal from only food harvested from the island that season on the exact site of the shell midden.
